Older demographics are also taking to online shopping in a big way, again because of the comfort value. With online retailers taking all possible steps to avoid all line frauds, more and more people are putting their trust in online purchases.
Richard Dodd, spokesperson for The British Retail Consortium, said: "People are moving to online because they are picking up the technology and still finding out the advantages that there are to online retailing, which are convenience and the ability to shop around."
New figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index show that UK shoppers spent over £4.67 billion online in December, a rise of 14.2% compared to December 2007.
The index revealed that 37% of shoppers did more than half of their shopping online, with nearly two-thirds spending more online this Christmas than last year.
