But there always seems to be a catch! Advertising costs are cheaper because the copy deadline is imminent. That means you have to make a quick decision to go ahead and get the ad together at the eleventh hour.

Relax! Our talented Art Department produces exemplary results under extreme pressure – just check out our Web Windows pages in any of this weekend’s broadsheets and see their results for yourself. If you do decide to advertise - you'll be in good company.

Remember: Advertising rates are reduced near the copy deadline. To take advantage of these cheap advertising costs you must be available for contact by phone or email within the next 24 hours (one working day) so your advertisement copy can be approved.

Low cost advertising deals - pros and cons

The most obvious advantage of late space advertising is the potentially enormous cost saving. Cheap advertising rates can help your budget go nearly twice as far.

Another huge advantage of picking up cheap advertising is that it allows you to test market otherwise unaffordable colour supplements without the customarily prohibitive advertising costs. You may not always have the luxury of a long term plan but this is more than made up for by bargain advertising costs. Advertising rates with discounts of over 50% off the normal cost may be achieved if you act quickly.

You should be aware that even though late space advertising costs are lower (and therefore more appealing) it’s worth taking the time to investigate the readership profile. All colour supplements have huge readerships, but the lure of a large discount might be offset by the fact that the demographic profile may not match. You should also bear in mind that it can take two or three minutes from the time of booking to when the cheap advertising offer is removed from the internet. In circumstances when two clients book simultaneously, we will try our best to ensure that each advertiser can be accommodated. This might result in the disappointed client being offered an upgrade to a higher circulating publication or an alternative publication date.

When is a cheap advertising deal not a cheap advertising deal?

The most effective way of comparing the advertising rates of one publication with the advertising rates of another is to calculate the cost per thousand, based on the desired target audience. You might find that even if a publication like The Guardian Weekend Magazine has a lower advertising cost, by the time its cost per thousand has been calculated, based on the target audience, the advertising rates may actually prove more expensive than a higher priced like The Sunday Times Magazine.
